SALES + DISTRIBUTION DIRECTOR
The Sales + Distribution Director at Radius Books leads all earned income-generating activities across our multiple sales channels while ensuring seamless fulfillment and distribution operations. This strategic role focuses on maximizing book sales, developing new market opportunities, and maintaining strong relationships with distribution partners, retailers, and individual customers. The role requires exceptional organizational abilities, market awareness, strong marketing and communication skills, operational savviness, and attention to detail.
This is an exempt full-time, in-person, M–F position at the Radius Studio in Santa Fe, NM. We will consider candidates living outside of New Mexico with the expectation that you will relocate to work in person within the first few months of employment.
ABOUT YOU
You're a dedicated book sales professional with a deep understanding of the specialized art book market. Perhaps you've managed an independent bookstore, worked in trade distribution, or have experience selling specialty products through multiple channels. You thrive at the intersection of strategic sales planning and effective communications, and are comfortable developing new retail partnerships while also orchestrating our digital presence.
You understand that in the art book world, sales and marketing are interconnected—your expertise primarily lies in identifying sales opportunities and strengthening our distribution partnerships. Still, you recognize that compelling storytelling drives sales in this industry. You're excited about crafting communications that connect our artists' work with the right audiences while optimizing our relationship with our distributor (Consortium/CBSD) to expand our market reach. With your blend of sales instinct and communications savvy, you'll ensure our books find their way into the hands of collectors, institutions, and art lovers worldwide.
You thrive in both independent and team settings, demonstrate enthusiasm for the opportunities and challenges of working on a small but highly productive team, and proactively approach tasks with a systems mindset.
Qualifications
Proven track record in publishing, book sales, product distribution, or related industry
Understanding of contemporary art, art book market, and distribution channels
Strong customer service ethos with excellent relationship-building skills
Knowledge and passion for the arts
Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities
Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills
Proficiency with inventory management systems and e-commerce platforms
Ability to travel 2–3 times annually for Radius events and sales engagement
RESPONSIBILITIES
Sales Strategy
Develop and implement comprehensive sales strategies across all channels: distributor (Consortium/CBSD), direct-to-consumer, wholesale, and specialty markets
Identify and pursue new sales opportunities with bookstores, museum shops, galleries, and specialty retailers
Cultivate high-value customer relationships, particularly with institutional buyers and collectors
Support limited-edition sales initiatives, in collaboration with our Operations + Development Director
Represent Radius Books at public events such as pop-up bookstores, book signings, and more
Generate comprehensive sales reports for board meetings, donor reports, and grants
Lead the strategy and calendar of Radius social media and digital campaigns for announcing publications and Radius events, working with digital communications freelance support
Maintain and leverage database of press and sales contacts with regular communication strategies for ensuring all contacts are aware of Radius releases
Leverage press coverage and book awards to drive sales
In close collaboration with the Public Programs Director, coordinate with artists to maximize sales opportunities around exhibitions, events, artist talks, and institutional relationships
Distribution Management
Engage with the full distribution lifecycle of Radius titles, including setting publication dates, ensuring proper ISBN assignments, communicating shipping instructions with our printer, and monitoring freight to various distribution channels
Serve as primary liaison with Consortium/CBSD distributor
Ensure timely submission of all title information for seasonal catalogs, in collaboration with the editorial team
Work proactively with distributor's sales team to position Radius titles effectively
Provide sales representatives with compelling sales presentations, marketing materials, and artist information, and coordinate on special promotions and marketing initiatives
Monitor sales trends and inventory at distribution warehouses and recommend inventory adjustments
Manage day-to-day fulfillment processes, including daily orders sent to our warehouse, creating and tracking shipments, and managing pre-sales of upcoming titles
Oversee all aspects of direct sales through the Radius website and studio bookstore, including greeting customers, tracking and fulfilling studio stock, and completing shipments from the studio
Optimize the online shopping experience by creating and maintaining the Radius sales and product pages and ensuring the website accurately reflects current inventory status
Track and communicate rare and limited-availability titles
Develop and maintain wholesale accounts and consignment relationships
Implement strategic promotions and special promotions to drive direct sales
SALARY + BENEFITS
$75,000 salary
Health insurance plan with option for 100% premiums covered by Radius
15 days PTO, 5 paid holidays, and a summer and a winter studio closure, each a week long
